6 month old constant wheezing and coughing. What could be wrong? What should we do?

We took him to the doctor. They said he had an ear infection and upper respitory infection. They gave us abiturol and antibiotic. We've been giving it to him but he sounds horrible. His breathing constantly sounds congested and has that horrible wheezing sound. Has anyone been through this and what was the outcome?
