Guiliani '08: What happened?

Ok, so I am very well aware of the fact that Guiliani's slow downward decline can be attributed to a faulty campaign strategy that got him thrown out of the limelight in the first primary elections. But support for Guiliani CLEARLY existed before the primaries, and he was considered one of the frontrunners, if not THE front runner of the Republican primary race up until about a month ago. Unfortunately, he lost this support and I want to know why. I respect all of the candidates running in both races (except for perhaps a few who shall remain unnamed...) and do not wish for THIS question to turn into a Guiliani-bashing extravaganza for those who did not like Rudy. I simply would like to know, from those who DID support Rudy, why you think he lost support from the people (aside from the campaign issues) and if you did find yourself favoring another candidate besides Rudy, why? For those who DIDN'T, I would like to hear why YOU believe he lost support, thoughts on his weaknesses, etc.
