God in the media?

I was watching a news report about a little girl who was in an accident that easily could have been fatal, but she survived apparently without being too seriously injured. At the end of the report, the anchor said, "Thank God she's alright." It's a fairly common expression, but it got me thinking. What would happen if, during a similar report, the reporter said, "Praise Allah for her safety," or "I thank the goddesses she's safe"? In a country that claims to have religious freedom, I can't imagine such comments getting by without intense scrutiny and possible reprecussions. Am I too cynical, or do you also think those comments would result in a backlash? If you'd like to, feel free to include what you think would happen in that situation.
