Is there a way to byp Atlanta (and the byp) when traveling North on I-75?

We are moving back to Tn from Tampa, FL. I will be driving with my 10 month old (my husband will be in front of me). Driving through Atlanta and even on the supposed "byp" makes me extremely nervous. Is there a way to get off the interstate and take a hwy or other road until we p ATL? I know that some people use 41 to go around traffic in that area, but I'm just not sure.
